Downing marriage

We are all probably around people everyday at work that down marriage. They may be said jokingly or by a bitter divorcée. Most of these people feel compelled to talk to me, since I am a newly wed. This really does bug me. I love my wife and I am blissfully happy.

Why do the "experienced" feel they need to share such negativity? How do you respond to the people that are so negative about marriage?
